Winter Course Builders Institute, Day 2 In-Person

The Course Builders Institute is a comprehensive three-day professional development program designed to guide faculty through the systematic design of new courses using evidence-based pedagogical practices. Faculty are invited to submit proposals for new course development, with up to six proposals selected for participation. Selected participants must commit to attending all three days of the institute, completing all assignments, and submitting their completed course proposal to their program head by the start of the spring semester.

The institute employs the backwards design framework developed by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins, providing participants with structured coaching through each phase of the course development process. Day One focuses on identifying and crafting meaningful learning objectives that align with program and institutional goals. Day Two centers on developing transparent assignments that will generate authentic evidence of student learning. Day Three emphasizes the planning of high-engagement learning experiences that support the achievement of course objectives.

Throughout the institute, guest speakers will provide valuable insights into Xavier's course review process, ensuring participants understand institutional expectations and procedures. By the program's conclusion, participants will have developed a complete, pedagogically sound course proposal ready for implementation.
